Postcards from August

“August slipped away into a moment in time, ’cause it was never mine.” ~ Taylor Swift

Atlas, Ink and Espresso | August Feature

I heard someone say that August is summer’s Sunday. And that rang true. August is a sweet soft summer’s end. A time to sit and read to our hearts content. And a time to gear up for the ber months (which admittedly are my favorite). Autumn leaves, cozy sweaters, the pitter patter of rain on a metal roof. Fires in the fireplace. A dog at your feet. And coffee, all the coffee.

In September we’ll move on to Prague and Czechia. Have you been there? The country absolutely fabulous and I can’t wait to explore further.

For now we say goodbye to to August and to France. To the cobblestone alleyways, Eiffel tower, fields of lavender and oodles of books and cafés. I’m feeling melancholy, already, with this goodbye – as I do with the completion of every book – even though there is always new volume waiting in the wings.

Looking back, the month feels deliciously full – books, coffee, travels. Croissants and jams, pungent cheeses, and steak frites. We’ve explored urban spaces, the coast and the country. And we’ve read oh so much!

This month’s photo pages:

  • A cup of coffee in Uzés – the perfect break while browsing through the outdoor flea market.
  • Amélie in Montmartre – the deep greens and reds from the produce store (which was right across from our AirBnb)
  • Bookshop reveries – every and all bookshops must be visited, especially if it contains cozy chairs and coffee.
  • Provence in all its glory – flowered vines over ancient walls, fields of poppies and lavenders, Madelines, fountains, quaint cafés.
  • Paris at dusk – the light settling over chimney clad rooftops, the Eiffel tower in the background (best seen from the steps at the Sacré-Couer), and a wander around the streets at night.

Travel (whether in the armchair or in person) is about the small moments. The pages and views that open your eyes, to new worlds and new ways of being. For now we will close these pages. But there is oh so much more to come.

Here’s to the next chapter. See you in Prague!
